New
secondary cables can be installed in refurbishment/re-habilitation
of runways, taxiways and manoeuvring areas for ground lighting
and signage etc. On average Concrete Cutters install 25,000
+ lm of secondary cable in surface chases in any year. Much
of this work is carried out in severely restricted access
areas within heavily trafficked airports.
We also operate a 24hr
call out emergency service for all BAA UK runway operations.
•
Saw cutting using self propelled, high power
diesel 75hp Dimas
floor saws we can cut any width of cable chase with minimum
disruption to the AGL fitting or existing PQ concrete. We
provide all our own water bowsers and operate as a self contained
unit.
•
Saw
cut chases are prepared and cleaned for cable placing and
sealing. Small dia holes are drilled using diamond or percussive
methods to gain access to E-Pits or AGL fittings to allow
cables to complete the circuit. Reinstatement can be with
hand or machine applied materials to suit the existing surface
type. Both hot and cold cable sealants can be applied as per
the client specification. Concrete cutters won an award in
2006 from BAA for
their design and application of a machine, which applied hot
bitumen into chases directly without using metal cans.
•
The
cleaned chase is dried and then a polyethylene foam backing
is applied before the chase is sealed (In PQ Concrete only).
When
ready for sealing the cable chase using cold applied we use
a specially formulated low-modulus, semi-flexible polyester
resin compound. Mixed correctly using slow speed mixing paddles
then poured into a 4 litre cartridge gun. The mixed material
is then extruded directly into the chase using hand pressure
on the trigger at the rear. This system shown here is very
neat, easy to use, controllable and cold applied.
•
A 3 man team can saw cut and seal the smallest
quantities up to approx 400lm depending on the surface material
and the site logistics.
