Works
at Manchester Airport
Throughout October and November we have been carrying out essential
maintenance work at Manchester airport for Morgan EST ltd. Our works
involve concrete profiling and retexturing on PQ concrete runways
and aircraft manoeuvring areas and stands. Our skilled operatives
Steve Gallop, Liam Berry, Richard Lovett, Lester Page, Kevin Stammers,
Richard Ralph & Jon WG Burroughs are carrying out a rolling
programme of works to the great satisfaction of the client. Concrete
profiling (Bump Cutting) is different from grooving or retexturing
and requires a different set up of the diamond blades and a gauging
wheel assembly fitted. Our equipment is versatile and can carry
out all three disciplines with only minor site based adjustments.
Concrete Profiling - Where
PQ concrete has moved or settled to produce uneven joints between
concrete bays. The blade shaft will have the blades closed spaced
and the gauging wheel fitted to run behind the cutting head on the
new surface level. This ensures all concrete the machine covers
will be at the same height or profile.
Grooving - Carried out on
concrete or asphalt runways and lead offs to increase skid resistance.
Blades 4mm or 6mm wide will be fitted to the shaft at 25mm centres
for the 4mm blades and 38mm centres for the 6mm wide blades.
Re-texturing - When PQ concrete
has lost its 'brushed' finish this presents airport management with
friction problems when wet and leaves the PQ concrete susceptible
to frost in winter. The finish can be lost by a variety of reasons
on both new and old concrete. Heavily trafficked areas or general
wear and tear on older concrete, rain damage or curing delays on
new concrete. The blades on the shaft will generally be spaced between
3mm - 6mm centres depending on application to reinstate the brushed
finished quickly with little disruption to the airport.

Works
at London City Airport
During November
we assisted Tarmac Construction with the development trials of a
new fast curing PQ concrete. As part of early 2008 maintenance works
the new concrete will be a major benefit giving sooner airport handback
to operations. Concrete Cutters operatives Jon Bunn & Kevin
stammers carried out the 4mm x 4mm x25mm grooving on a concrete
test panel which was only 12 hours old and already over 35Nm. Our
trial, with specially designed diamond blades by Crewcut
Ltd, was successful and will be utilised on the forthcoming
maintenance works.
Concrete Cutters successfully
carried out Rocksawing, AGL Installation, Diamond drilling &
sawing on a major taxi track & apron refurbishment for Tarmac
Ltd at RAF Lakenheath during 2007.
